Dear dost...

Here is the answer of your question..based on my personal experince as a Share officer

what is meant by no. of outstanding shares?

when a company issue shares in the market, the total no of these shares are called outstanding shares. It is also called as paid up capital of the company.for example the totla nos of outstanding share of ABC is 100,000 divided by Rs,1000,0000/= of Rs. 10 each

should we consider both preference shares and ordinary no. of shares

Both ththese term are more or less same .Preference shares are always offered by company to its existing share holders ( on some discount rate) whereas the ordinary shares one can buy from stock exchange.

while calculating dividend per share, should we consider or add up both dividend on preference shares and dividend on ordinary shares\

Yes, you will calculate the divident on the boht shares altogether

4 example
ordinary share =500
preference share 25
Total 525
The dividend will be calculated on the total entitlement of the shareholder

hope it will solve your purpose
