Salam Fellows,--Today I took my HRM Viva/Presentation. Exhausted from two days journey and one night "JAGRATA" could not prepare at all, did not read my pass report even once. It is true that I did my internship whole-heartedly for two months and was involved in daily activities like a regular employee, yet I was just an internee. The practical work rescued me many times during Viva. They asked a lot of questions related to my internship and about the organization specifically. The start was in English, one lady asked some questions in Urdu but I replied all in English.
Below is the whole episode, sorry for being it lengthy:
· My start time was 11:00 am and I reached at 11:01 am (hoho)
· Marked attendance twice, once for campus entry and once for Viva/Presentation
· Staff lady took my VU ID card and asked me to wait in waiting hall
· At 11:20 I was called in front of the video conference equipment (flat mice on the table, oneTV screen divided into two parts one part showing me and other showing instructors, keyboard, mouse, one TV screen showing my slides on the left and video camera)· Staff lady plugged in USB into the system and asked me to sit in the chair
· Two female instructors asked me to introduce myself and start......................
Immediately after organization overview, she asked to come to Training Program; I browsed upwards and downwards but skipped form my eyes every time (lolz). Then one lady said "Beta there is training program in your slides, please just locate and explain" Then I succeeded and explainedQ: What was the main HRD activity you learned from the organization during internship?
A: Three types:- ( I expressed in detail)
1) managerial training
2) vocational training
3) technical training
Q: What is the difference between Human Resource Management and Human Resource Development?A: HRM is the process by which human capital is managed in the organization while HRD is process of capacity enhancement of individuals to make them more competent so that they contribute towards betterment of the society
Q: What is the difference between Training and Development?A: Training is the process of learning more skills or knowledge etc to carry on certain tasks/jobs in a better way while Development is beyond training that involves changing individual behavior and readiness to accept the change in order to achieve the organizational goals
Now come to Critical Analysis, tyranny of the fate, again had difficulty in locating it in my own built slides, lolzThen one lady said, "Did you make the presentation by yourself or not, you did internship or not?" (ohh lae)
(aap ne internship ki bhi hae ya nahi?)
I apologized and replied that I was looking at sub-headings but the topic you asked is in the main headings
I started explaining critical analysisQ: What is Span of Control?
A: Should I explain the concept or just say what type is in the organization?
Q: Please explain the concept first then what is in organization
I explained both in few lines
Then they asked many questions related to my internship and the organization and I replied with confidence, all of them with facts and figures without looking at the slides
Then the other female asked to come to SWOT AnalysisThis time I did not have any difficulty in locating it in the slides (shoooo)
Q: What do you think is the main Strength of the organization?
A: I explained that the chairman has the vast experience of 55 years in the field of human welfare, a source of inspiration. In fact he also the Chairman of a network of 10 Rural Support Programs
Now come to Weaknesses. During my explanation:Q: What are the main reasons of high turn-over as you have mentioned it as weakness?
A: Non-competitive and lower than the market salary structure. When an employee finds a better opportunity in another organization, he/she resigns from this organization
Now come to Opportunities:-Q: What is the major opportunity for this organization?
A: The proposed construction of Bhasha-Diamer Dam
Come to Threats:Q: What is the major threat at the moment for the organization?
A: Although this PNGO has second to none in terms of its role played for Project Affected Persons (PAPs) and working as per the mandate within GBHP (Ghazi Barotha Hyropower Project) and this organization also provides micro-financing facility within the GBHP affected area for productive purposes, I think other micro-finance banks located within the area can pose a business threat.
Now come to Conclusion, I started explaning
(A strange twist of two questions, I don't know why they asked!!!!)Q: Are you working in this organization?
A: No madam
Q: Did they offer you any job?
A: Not yet madam
Now come to Recommendations. During explanation:
Q: What will you recommend for this organization"?
A:
1. Update existing office equipment and install more
2. Establish fully functional HRM department
3. Increase staff strength
4. Purchase more vehicle to overcome the shortage being suffered and to avoid any conflicts over usage
5. Increase or revise salary structure to bring it competitive level
Thank you BetaBeta (me): Thank you too madams, Allah Hafiz
Started at 11:20 am, finished at 11:45 am
I thought, "A still tongue always has a better head".
Then I replied to myself and smiled, "mamoo, all is well that ends well"
One more question that I could not include:
Q: How did you get internship there in this organization? Did you use any reference?
And I replied, "I myself started looking for the internship from the beginning of the 4th semester and went to different organizations. I also approached this organization for the internship and they allowed me for that."
Good Luck to all of you--
